Match Report
Cwmbran Celtic suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat last Friday night under the Ynys Park floodlights at Trefelin. Celtic fielded new signings Joe Bowen (from Ammanford) and substitute Robert Jones (from Goytre). The only goal came in the 16th minute when a long ball out of defence eluded Dinham and the outrushing Lewis Watkins to enable 48-year-old ex-Swansea pro Lee Trundle to walk the ball into the empty net for his 13th goal of the season. Trundle was the difference between the two sides. He was denied further goals by 3 good saves by Lewis Watkins.
This was a solid enough performance by the team against 4th placed Trefelin and we probably had the better of the play in the first half. However, the lack of a goal-scoring striker was again evident and we didn’t have a single shot at goal in the second half. If this situation can’t be rectified in the January window, it will be a real struggle for us to move out of the relegation zone.
Celtic remain in 15th place in the table. The relegation zone is between 5 teams separated by only 5 points. Celtic play 3 of these sides in the next 4 weeks. They are all must-win games for each side.
