Match Report
The Reds continued their winning run against Cwmbran Celtic with a 3-2 victory at Stebonheath Park. Goals from Curtis Hutson, Ethan Cann and Josh Allen sealed all three points in what was a back and forth game under the lights.
An opening chance for the Reds came from a set piece, a rebound in the area finding Curtis Hutson who fired over the bar. Cwmbran had a major chance to open the scoring at the 20 minute mark. Thomas Meechan found himself one on one, his strike beating Scott Coughlan but failing to cross the line despite hitting the post. The Reds then had a chance just minutes later, the ball finding Hutson on the edge of the box – his shot fired over the bar.
Hutson broke the deadlock for the Reds after 36 minutes. Some great work from Thomas Hillman in the build-up, his skill and original shot which hit the post – giving Hutson the chance to finish from close range.
Coughlan produced a great save to deny Meechan from a free kick just outside the penalty area just minutes before half time – keeping the Reds in front at the break. Cwmbran started the second half with a big chance from a corner, a huge clearance off the line was needed to keep the Reds in front. Cwmbran found their equaliser just after the hour mark. A curling strike from range by Meechan – bringing the game level.
The Reds had a chance to get back in front almost instantly. Some great work down the left hand side saw Joe Hopkins come close at the keepers near post. The Reds continued on the front foot and earned their reward. Cann getting himself back on the scoresheet, a shot from the left side of the box enough to beat the keeper at his far post.
Cwmbran then found their second equaliser of the game. Despite a shot being blocked off the line, the visitors were awarded a penalty. Alex Bonthron converting past Coughlan.
Following a number of battles across the pitch it was the Reds who got themselves in front again. Allen converting between the keeper’s legs from close range. Despite a long period of time added on by the official – the Reds were able to hold on to their lead and come away with all three points.
