Match Report
This was a much-improved display by Cwmbran Celtic under the Stebonheath lights after their disappointing home defeat against Taffs Well. Celtic gave a first start to ex-Celtic junior and former Cardliff City Academy defender Josh Rippon who quickly settled into central defence alongside skipper Andrew Larcombe. Celtic welcomed striker Alex Bonthron back for his 1st game of the season and both he and fellow striker Lewis Iles brought first half saves from Town keeper Coughlin.
In the 2nd half Celtic’s resolute display continued to frustrate the hosts but they suffered a double whammy in the 71st minute when a challenge from right back Kian Bodenham was adjudged to concede a penalty and a 2nd yellow card reducing Celtic to 10 men. Hopkins stepped up to take the spot kick which was brilliantly saved by Lewis Watkins diving at full stretch to his left. Town ramped up the pressure and finally pierced the Celtic defence with an 84th minute goal by Parker to secure the 3 points.
