Match Report
Cwmbran Celtic were once more held by a side in the drop zone, this time it was Trefelin Boys & Girls Club who denied the hosts – our 4 th successive home draw out of 6 successive home games
which we have failed to win. The one point confirmed that Celtic will finish in 8 th place in the Cymru South – our 4 th best finish in 17 seasons in the Welsh/Cymru Leagues. It was the visitors 14 th
successive league game without a win and they remain in 14 th place. After an uninspiring 1 st half Celtic took the lead in the 59 th minute when a superb cross from the right by skipper Andrew Larcombe was pounced on by 36-year-old Dominic Connor ghosting into the penalty box on the blind side of the defender to slot the ball home for his 8 th goal of the season. Tom Meechan had two chances to increase the lead. Firstly he looked odds on to score when he found the ball in front of him with the goal at his mercy but the ball bobbled away from him and was cleared. Then his shot was pushed away for a corner by 16-year-old keeper Cavalcante. Josh Winstone replaced Lewis Watkins who had injured his thumb and a minute later he was facing a Trefelin penalty awarded for a foul by Shaun Moss. The spot kick from Thomas hit the bar but bounced down over the line for the equaliser. Josh Rippon rescued Celtic with a clearance off the line and in the closing minutes Elliot Jones’s shot was blocked and Isaac Powell’s effort was deflected for a corner.
