CWMBRAN CELTIC 6 PONTARDAWE TOWN 0
Cwmbran Celtic ended a 6-match winless run going back to 29 August (a 4-3 win at Pontardawe) to complete the double over the Swansea valley side with this emphatic 6-0 victory. It was Celtic’s 1st home league win of the season in 6 games taking them above Town and Ammanford into 10th place in the league with a goal difference of +1 which is much superior to the 6 teams below them which range from -7 to -21.
On a pitch which had surprisingly withstood the continuous downpours during the week Celtic were quickly in front Alex Bonthron heading in Tom Meechan’s cross on 12 minutes. Celtic had 2 ‘goals’ disallowed either side of this. On 39 minutes Celtic went 2 up, Jordan Meaney heading home Meechan’s pinpoint corner. Celtic had another ‘goal’ disallowed before half time.
The visitors defended stubbornly in the 1st quarter after the break but 2 goals in quick succession from man of the match Isaac Powell (63) and Dominic Connor (65) broke their spirit and two more goals from Lewis Iles (77) and Alex Bonthron (89 – a penalty) gave Celtic their best win since beating Afan Lido 6-0 in 2017 (Lee Challenger’s 1st game as newly appointed manager) and only their 2nd clean sheet in the league this season. Bonthron’s 2 goals were his 6th brace of the season – his 15 goals place him 2nd in the Cymru South teams’ league and cup charts behind Barry’s Kyle MacLaggon
