Match Report
Cwmbran Celtic went into this game against the reigning Cymru South champions with high hopes after their spectacular 5-1 win last week at Taffs Well. However, they disappointed and went down 2-1 to a well-drilled Llantwit side on a pitch which was tacky after the recent snow. Chances were few and far between in an uninspiring 1st half. Lewis Watkins made a fine diving save from Davidson and at the other end Lansdown tipped a Lewis Iles header away for a corner. Conceding goals either side of half time has been an Achilles heel this season for Celtic and on 45+4 minutes they failed to clear a corner and Tyler Jackson swooped to score.
The quality of football dipped even further in the 2nd half. Davidson spurned a golden chance to increase Llantwit’s lead, heading over the bar with the goal at his mercy but substitute Owain Edwards made amends on 80 minutes with a shot in off the post from an impossible angle from the left by-line. Referee Dan Richardson always finds plenty of time to add on and in 90+7 Lewis Iles scored a consolation goal – his 19 th goal of the season. It was good to see Jack Martin back from injury starting his first game since August.
