Match Report
Cwmbran Celtic succumbed to a spectacular revival by Carmarthen Town at Celtic Park. Celtic gave a debut to Josh Winstone in what proved to be a baptism of fire for the Academy keeper as the visitors ripped the Celtic defence apart with 5 goals in 21 minutes either side of half time. The game had started so well for Celtic who took a 2-goal lead, firstly through Alex Bonthron who converted a penalty in the 17th minute given for a foul on him by teenage keeper Ifan Knott. Then on 25 minutes Isaac Powell took a pass from brother Sam to increase the lead with a shot from the left wing which curled past Knott into the net.
Thereafter Carmarthen gradually took control of the game and Liam Thomas pulled a goal back on 43 minutes. Then Vickers swung a hopeful lob into the Celtic goal area. The ball bounced off the post and fell to Thomas whose shot from 2 yards looked a certain goal but Winstone threw himself at the shot and somehow deflected it away for a corner – a stupendous save. Another shot bound for the empty net was headed off the line by Andrew Hewitt to keep Celtic in the lead 2-1 at the interval.
In the first quarter of the 2nd half Carmarthen carried on where they left off scoring 4 goals in 16 minutes through 2 long range shots from Greg Walters, and strikes from Thomas and Delaney. Celtic kept plugging away to the end and in time added on Lewis Iles fed Alex Bonthron for his 2nd goal
