Match Report
Cwmbran Celtic withstood a late rally by visitors Cambrian & Clydach to earn a point but they will be disappointed that they did not win the game after being 2 goals up in the opening 3 minutes and 3-1 ahead at half time. Alex Bonthron latched on to a pinpoint through ball from Simon Prangley to open the scoring in the 1st minute and on 3 minutes he was at the far post to tap in a lob across goal from Lewis Iles. On 17 minutes a fine display of keep ball by Cambrian opened up the Celtic defence for ex-Celtic striker Josh Bull to pull a goal back but Lewis Iles restored Celtic’s 2 goal lead in the 30th minute from a Dominic Connor cross. The visitors reduced the arrears with a superb strike from Welch on 37 minutes and Josh Bull wasted the chance to equalise when he blazed a penalty high and wide. Cambrian had much the better of the 2nd half and it was no surprise when, in the 76th minute, Eason squeezed a shot from Bull into the net at the far post. With their tails up Cambrian pressed for the winner but Celtic’s resolute defence held out to gain the point.
