Match Report

Cwmbran Celtic won a tightly contested 1st round Welsh Cup-tie 1-0 at Celtic Park. It was the club’s 1st Welsh Cup win since November 2018 and their 8th successive home league and cup win against the Swansea valley side in a run stretching back to October 2007. The only goal of the game was scored by Dominic Connor in the 14th minute when keeper Marsh could only palm a cross from the right by Isaac Powell into the path of Connor who steered the ball into the unguarded net. Clear-cut chances were few and far between. Celtic keeper Joe Regan made two good saves either side of half-time and Marsh made a fine finger tip save from a superb goal bound lob by substitute Alex McDowell. Substitute Brandon Virgo gave an impressive cameo performance late on and was denied his 1st goal for the team by a defender’s desperate lunge to clear.
