Match Report
Celtic travelled to Carmarthen Town for this Good Friday fixture with a much-changed side from the one that unluckily lost to Briton ferry in their last fixture. Captain, Andrew Larcombe and top scorer, Alex Bonthron, were both suspended. Callum Hodges was still unfit following the ankle injury he sustained last Saturday, and Alex McDowell was unavailable. It was going to be an uphill task, therefore, to take anything home from the fixture and so it proved.
However, Celtic were not going down without a fight and they battled manfully throughout the first half. With Iwan Hooper making a miraculous penalty save in the 13th minute, it looked like they would go into the break all square. However, in the 40th minute, a deep cross from the left evaded everyone and left Carmarthen’s Gavin Jones with a simple opportunity at the far post to open the scoring.
Half-time: Carmarthen Town 1 Celtic 0
The second half was very similar with Celtic battling hard against the odds. Both Tom Meechan and Lewis Iles had reasonable chances to open Celtic’s account but no real clear cut opportunities were created.
Carmarthen dominated most of the play and added two further goals from Tobias Jones (54th minute) and Bradley Gibbings (61st minute).
In the 77th minute Rory Coleman was introduced to replace Josh Hinwood and performed creditably on his debut for the first team.
Full-time: Carmarthen Town 3 Celtic 0
Celtic supporters’ POTM was Kian Bodenham
