Match Report
Cwmbran Celtic registered their 2nd win in the Genero Adran Trophy Group stage match with a comprehensive victory at Cambrian. Celtic gave starting berths to Amy Roderick, Sian Anthony and Cerys Shipley leaving a mighty strong bench – Fiona Anthony, Jodie Challenger, Georgia Shwartz and Summer Bowen-Quirk.
The home side took the lead on 9 minutes when, from a throw in, Whittle chested the ball down to Leah Davies to fire the ball into the goal. On 13 minutes Celtic were level when a Preston clearance was misjudged by the defender. Jade Crofts cut inside and brought a good block from Welsh international keeper Sophie Dando. However, the ball fell kindly to Lauren Boyd to stroke into the net.
On 22 minutes Celtic went ahead with a finely worked goal. A glorious cross ball from Boyd found Shipley on the right who crossed for Eloise Meaney to fire home. On 36 minutes Celtic increased their lead when Crofts fastened on to Roderick’s throw to hit a left foot shot between Dando and her near post. On 38 minutes Boyd dispossessed the defender and played Jade in for her 2nd goal in the match and her 6th to make her top scorer in the Trophy group stage.
There were no goals in the 2nd half, Jade being denied two more goals by a great save by Dando, and by the thickness of the upright.
Celtic progress to the knock-out stage after finishing 2nd to Penybont in the group stage.
POM: Cerys Shipley
