The Women’s 1st team have played twice since Christmas. In the SWFA Cup they beat Coed Duon 17-0 at Celtic Park. Jade Crofts scored 5 and had 6 assists. Eloise Meaney and Fiona Anthony both scored hat-tricks with 2 assists each, and Lauren Boyd also notched a hat-trick. Challenger, Shipley and Georgie Cridland completed the scoring.
Last Sunday Celtic travelled to Pontypridd and lost a very tight game 1-0, which meant Pontypridd had completed the double – Celtic’s only two defeats in the league. The play was end to end with Ponty’s strikers looking dangerous when latching onto balls down the middle. In the 3rd minute keeper Preston made two saves to keep Ponty out. Celtic’s best chance in the 1st half fell to Lauren Boyd who shot over the bar when well placed.
Early in the 2nd half from a Celtic corner Fiona Anthony’s shot was stopped by an outstretched foot. In the 68th minute Celtic had a golden chance to take the lead when a long ball from the left found Fona Anthony who left the defence for dead but her shot was blocked by the keeper. Two minutes later Ponty scored the winner when a corner was punched clear by Preston but Caitlin Seaborne stepped back and shot left footed into the corner of the net. Gracie Grosvenor, 18 years of age, recently transferred from Caldicot Town, made her Celtic debut.
Ponty, Celtic & Swansea University are all on 15 points at the top of the table separated only by goal difference. The key to who wins the Adran South title appears to rest with the University who have to play both Ponty and Celtic. However, don’t rule out Cascade & Penybont who are both on 12 points. This league is incredibly competitive.
