Cwmbran Celtic Review W/E 12 May 2024

May 15, 2024

The Reserves won 6-0 in midweek at home to Chepstow Town, the scorers Jack Prosser 3, Adrian Maguire, Mario van Dieren & Gabriel Howells. On the weekend they served up another 6-0 win versus Tredegar Town at Celtic Park. Scorers Jack Prosser 2, Bailey Goodall, Gabriel Howells, Adrian Maguire & Harry Pugh. Andrew Larcombe appeared in goal. The team remain in 4th place but they have a great chance of finishing runners up if they can win their remaining 2 games. Jack’s hat-trick has posed an interesting question – has any other 16-year old scored a senior hat-trick for Celtic aged 16? I’ll be delving into the archive trying to find the answer.

The 3rd team lost 2-1 in midweek at home to 3rd placed Newport Saints, a good performance considering the Saints are on an 8-match winning run. Matthew Grinham scored Celtic’s goal & Callum Hodges made his comeback from injury.

On Saturday they lost 0-6 at home to Ponthir Reserves whose starting line-up contained 9 of their 1st team who are 2nd in the Newport Premier. This win ended a run of 7 successive defeats for Ponthir & moved them above Celtic who have dropped to 8th out of 9 in the table.

The Ladies Development team had an unexpectedly tough encounter in midweek at Celtic Park versus 10th placed Newport City, scraping home 3-2 through goals by Anna Lugg-Morris 2 & Alex-Marie Bond.

On Sunday at Celtic Park the Ladies registered their 7th successive league win 14-0 versus a plucky North Cardiff Cosmos who only had 10 players. Celtic had 8 scorers: Bethan Percival 3, Teagen Eley 3, Alex Cridland 2, Talya Stokes 2, Anna Lugg-Morris, Georgina Cridland, Natalie Rostron & Olivia Fairfax. Jordan Davies’s team are closing in on 1st place, being now 1 point behind leaders Coed Duon with 2 games in hand. Two wins from their remaining 3 games will give them the Division 2 title.
