Celtic travelled to the Rec at Ammanford in a positive frame of mind after easily beating the hosts 4-0 at Celtic Park in August. A word of caution though – Ammanford had won their last 5 home games. Celtic got off to a dream start in the 3rd minute when Hooper’s goal kick was headed on by Andrew Larcombe. The ball sliced goalwards off the centre back’s foot where Tom Meechan pipped keeper Luke Martin to the ball. He deftly manoeuvred himself to the left of the retreating defenders and swivelled to place the ball into the empty net for his 8th goal of the season. Ammanford were soon level when, on 7 minutes, Adam John skipped down the left wing and crossed for Lewis Reed to sweep the ball home. On the half hour Reed put his side 2-1 ahead when his free kick squirmed into the corner of the net past the outstretched hand of Hooper. On the stroke of half time Reed completed his hat-trick when Hooper could only palm Callum Thomas’s shot into his path to score from close range.
In the 71st minute Reed scored his 4th from the penalty spot which was from a contentious decision by referee Ben Schofield. Rhys Davies drove into the box down the right flank. He rode a sliding challenge and then, 3 strides on, suddenly fell to the ground. Ammanford scored their 5th in the 83rd minute when substitute Matthew Fisher played to fellow substitute Llewellyn James to score. Ammanford’s last goal on 85 minutes was scored when Shaun Moss’s ball across field was intercepted by Ellis Williams who strode down the left to cross for Fisher to score. Celtic responded in the 90th minute, salvaging a goal from Tom Meechan’s free kick, Sam Powell bundling the ball under Martin’s body at the far post.
This was Celtlc’s 5th successive away defeat and they drop to 13th place behind Penrhiwceiber who have risen off the bottom of the table with 4 wins in their last 5 games.
