Matchday Programme

In a barnstorming finish to the match, Cwmbran Celtic held their nerve to grind out their 3rd successive home league win in succession, to lift them two places to 10th in the table. Celtic were without their star striker Tom Meechan and with Alex Bonthron having moved to English side Cinderford, versatile skipper Andrew Larcombe joined speedster Giles Basson up front. Celtic were also without defender Kian Bodenham who is likely to be out for some time after his injury last week at Cambrian. After a goalless first half, Caerau took the lead on 48 minutes when Haben Samson crossed from the right to Oliver Redhead at the far post who lobbed the ball over keeper Hooper into the net. On 73 minutes Josh Hinwood was sent off for a rash sliding challenge. However, far from being downcast, the Celtic team fought for every ball and on 79 minutes were rewarded with the equaliser, substitute Jack Prosser latching onto Larcombe’s header into the box and steering the ball into the goal.  On 89 minutes Celtic were in front when Samson slipped and lost possession and substitute Cole Doolan nipped in to score. Celtic’s lead was short-lived when another substitute, Clayton Farrah, strode forward from his own half and found himself on the edge of the penalty box where he unleashed an unstoppable shot past Hooper. Celtic then snatched the winner when Doolan played the ball forward, Prosser stuck out a foot as keeper Dimonkene dithered on the edge of the box. The ball rolled slowly towards the net and crossed the line despite the keeper’s despairing dive. Celtic’s joy was tempered with Isaac Powell, who had returned after 3 weeks out,  suffering a dislocated shoulder after an off the ball clash with a Caerau player, which will keep him out for another lengthy period.
