Matchday Programme

Celtic started the new campaign with a side weakened by injuries and holiday commitments but, with such an early start to the season, other sides were probably in a similar situation. Sixteen year old, Harry Pugh, was making his debut for the first team. Seventeen year old, Jack Prosser, was on the bench as was new signing from Blaenavon Blues, Jude Bull, brother of Josh who has previously played with distinction for the club.

Celtic were very slow out of the block and Cambrian dominated the early exchanges such that it was no surprise when they took the lead after eight minutes when Tim Parker had a tap in at the far post following a good cross from the right by Liam Warman. That lead was doubled nine minutes later when the ball fell kindly for Josh Allen in the box and he calmly lobbed it over Josh Winstone.

Celtic then strove hard to get themselves into the game and played some good football to try to get on the   before half time and drag themselves back into the game. However, they never really threatening the Cambrian goal and were punished in added time at the end of the first half when Josh Allen scored his second goal to put Cambrian in a very strong position at the break.

Half-time: Celtic 0 Cambrian United 3

Celtic started the second half with a bit more intent and began to have the lion’s share of possession but with striker, Alex Bonthron, ploughing a lone furrow up front for most of the time, the only occasion they threatened was when Alex made an opportunity for himself and was unlucky to see his left foot shot rebound off the post with Morgan Davies in the Cambrian goal well beaten.

To their credit Celtic kept plugging away and were rewarded three minutes from the end when Tom Meechan hit a superb dipping volley from twenty-five yards which flew over Davies into the net. Unfortunately, they couldn’t add to this before the end of the game.
