Cwmbran Celtic Review W/E 4 May 2024

On Sunday the Ladies Development were in the SWWG League Shield final at Ocean Park Cardiff against Penydarren BGC, firm favourites to take the 1st Division title and to win the Shield against our 2nd Division girls on the back of scoring 31 goals in 3 games to reach the final & their 3 strikers had scored 92 league & cup goals between them.
Celtic were a goal down in the 1st minute but the girls then dug in to put in a superb rearguard performance for the next 80 minutes & they had their chances to equalise, Teagan Eley bringing a save from the keeper & Anna Lugg-Morris having a shot blocked. Penydarren finally broke the tiring Celtic defence with 3 goals in the last 10 minutes to win 4-0.
But congratulations to manager Jordan Davies & his team for their valiant display.

Earlier in midweek the Ladies Development beat Abertillery Belles 7-1 at Celtic Park with goals by Georgina Cridland 2, Bethan Percival 2, Dominique Laida, Teagan Eley & Jasmine Payne. Celtic remain in 2nd place 7 points behind leaders Coed Duon with 4 games in hand. 3 wins in their last 4 games will give them the title.

On Saturday the 3rd team lost at home 1-0 to Caerleon. Youth goalkeeper Ellis Oakley made his 1st appearance for the 3rd team.

The Vets 40s drew 3-3 on Sunday at home to Dinas Powys. After reaching half time at 1-1, goal scorer Gareth Hinwood, Celtic took the lead through Dan Parfitt, 2-1. Dinas we’re fought back and went 3-2 up with just 20 minutes to go. Substitute Nick Wilson levelled the score immediately to make it 3-3 to share the spoils.
