Match Report
The first league game of the season was played in sweltering conditions against a spirited and well drilled side. However chances soon came with Demi going wide on 12 minutes off a free kick by Georgia closely followed by an effort by Kim which narrowly missed the target.
The deadlock was broken on 15 minutes when Eloise ‘eased’ past an opposing player and shot from distance giving the keeper no chance. Shortly afterwards she brought down the Caldicot centre forward and received the first yellow of the game.
Celtic continued to make chances but were hit by a counter attack and Jade Crofts converted on 36 minutes to level the game.
Fiona received a yellow card for a badly timed tackle and unfortunately received another yellow just before half time for expressing an opinion to the match official leaving us with 10 players for the remainder of the game.
Just before half time Kim with her trade mark bustling run got clear of the defence and slotted home leaving the half time score 2:1
Kim further extended the lead on 53 minutes with a great reaction after her initial chance was blocked.
The heat certainly had an effect and water breaks were much appreciated.
Celtic were in control and were still creating chances but were undone again through a defensive mix up on 80 minutes when Croft again pounced.
Fresh legs off the bench gave Celtic a bit more resilience and were rewarded when we eventually delivered a corner which was pounced on by Eloise to close the match out with Celtic winning 4:2
A good start to the season but improvements will be needed if we are to compete at this higher level. Well done ladies
