Vs: Ton Pentre
Match Type: League (H)
Date: 12-08-2017 14:30
This was the first League game to be played on Celtic Park following the erection of our new 250-seater stand and it was good to see a larger than normal crowd in the ground.
The game started slowly and it was ten minutes before the first goal threat when Cook and Bull interchanged passes but Bull’s final shot was easily saved. Ton Pentre then had their own chance when Josh Hardy just failed to connect with a good cross from the right. On 26 minutes, following a corner from the left, the ball bobbled around in the area but no Celtic player could get a good touch on it. Just after, a training ground corner found Young on the edge of the box but his shot was blasted over the bar. Ten minutes later Larcombe failed to clear a ball over the top and Ton Pentre’s Leon Jacka brought a good save from 18-year-old Dibble, who was making his League debut between the sticks. Just before half time after good work by Bull, Connor found Penry with a cross but he shot straight at Griffiths in the visitors’ goal.
HALF TIME: CELTIC 0 TON PENTRE 0
Right after the break Garth Morris found himself free down the left but Dibble again made a good save. Just after good work by Connor resulted in Bull dragging a shot just wide. Wakeham then replaced Baugh and almost immediately Wakeham was involved in the move that that ended with Bull converting Connor’s cross to put the home side one up.
Ton Pentre almost equalised when a header from a corner was headed off the line by Larcombe. The next chance fell to Celtic when Patel won the ball on the halfway line and surged forward. He found Bull who probably should have moved the ball on to one of the Celtic players who had joined in the move but he lost the ball trying to beat his man and the chance was lost. Fifteen minutes later Ton Pentre were level. Tom Randall weaved his way around a couple of tackles in the box and found the bottom left hand corner with a well-placed shot. The visitors could have taken the lead five minutes later when Adam Lewis blazed a volley over the bar after a corner from the right. The last chance fell to Wakeham who wriggled free on the edge of the box but his shot went straight into Griffiths’ arms.
Kinsella replaced Jones five minutes from the end and the game ended all square.
