CELTIC PLAYER APPOINTED CLUB CAPTAIN OF UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL TEAM

The club offers its congratulations to Alex McDowell, who, in his third year as a student at Leeds Beckett University studying for a BSc (Hons) Sport, Physical Activity and Health, has been appointed to the prestigious position of club captain for 2017/18. Alex came through the junior ranks in an all conquering Celtic junior side which completed a very successful 5 years in Torfaen Junior football by winning Torfaen Under 12, 14 and 16 league titles and the U12 and U14 cups. He then joined the Fairwater Academy playing for the Under 18’s and then the Under 19’s. Such was his enthusiasm he would turn out for any team and in season 2013/14 he played no less than 68 games for the club’s senior, youth and school Academy teams. In 2014/15 he played for the U19’s in the final of the Welsh League Youth cup. Despite the fact that Alex is now in his third year at the northern university he maintains a close association with the club, returning during his vacations to turn out for the Reserve team. Alex made his debut for the 1st team in 2013-14 at the age of 17 years and 1 month and has made 9 appearances. He hasn’t figured this season because he has only recently returned from Chicago, USA where he has been coaching in soccer training camps for children age 5 to 18.
